Birmingham, Feb 7 (NationPress) Following the arrival of Marcus Rashford at Aston Villa, head coach Unai Emery expressed that he is "very happy" to welcome him to the club and believes it will present an "exciting challenge" with the English forward.
Villa, who finalized the loan signings of Marco Asensio and Alex Disasi alongside Rashford just before the transfer deadline, are set to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in the 4th round of the FA Cup, which could mark Rashford’s debut appearance at the club.
"I'm very happy with him. The discussion we had was quite straightforward, focusing on football and what I expect from him. I believe his potential remains significant. I’m not concerned about the reasons behind his departure from Manchester United.
"I am thrilled to have him here, and I aim to assist him in regaining his performance levels. My challenge with him is substantial, and his challenge with us is equally exciting. I am truly pleased."
The England international, who has earned 60 caps for the Three Lions, joined Villa on a contract until the end of the season. Rashford has netted 138 goals in over 400 appearances, having risen through the ranks at Old Trafford, and has secured the Europa League, two FA Cups, and two League Cups with his childhood club.
The adaptable forward, capable of playing in various attacking positions, has also scored 17 goals for England and has participated in two World Cups and two European Championships.
Despite spending eight years at Manchester United, he struggled to connect with new head coach Ruben Amorim. After Rashford's exit, Amorim stated that he couldn’t get Rashford to interpret the game in the manner he desired.
"I couldn’t get Marcus to comprehend how to play football and to train the way I envision it. Sometimes, a player excels under one coach but may not fit under another."
"I wish Rashford and Villa manager Unai Emery the best; if they can connect, it will be beneficial because he is an outstanding player," Amorim commented on Thursday.
