Are Residents of Poonch’s Border Villages Excited About the Proposed Bunker Increase?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Dec 22 (NationPress) A thorough evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) concerning the necessity for bunker construction in the border villages of Poonch, a town positioned near the Line of Control (LoC), has sparked happiness among local residents.
The bunkers act as a vital shield for the community during military confrontations between India and Pakistan, providing a safe haven for villagers. Due to the region's susceptibility to conflict, locals have long been advocating for the establishment of more bunkers to ensure the safety of their families.
The Home Ministry has reached out to all District Development Commissioners (DDCs) in Jammu and Kashmir to gather information regarding the necessity and quantity of bunkers required.
Residents of Jalas and Salotri, villages adjacent to the LoC in Poonch district, are thrilled that their requests have been acknowledged, and steps are being taken to address their needs.
Villagers have expressed their gratitude towards the Home Ministry's decision and are hopeful for the prompt construction of bunkers, emphasizing their desire for as many private bunkers as possible to enhance their safety.
Haji Ali Akbar, a resident of Jalas, remarked, "This has been a longstanding request of ours. Our proximity to the border places us in danger. With bunkers, we will feel secure and capable of protecting ourselves during wartime situations."
Another villager, Satinder Kumar Sharma from Jalas, stated, "The MHA’s inquiry into the district administration's bunker needs has brought us immense joy. Even in the event of conflict with Pakistan, these bunkers will ensure our safety. I wish to extend my gratitude to the Home Minister on behalf of my village, panchayat, and the entire community."
Ketan Bali, also from Jalas, commented, "The MHA has recognized our long-term demand for bunkers and is coordinating with the district administration to address our needs for individual and communal bunkers."
"We urge that the bunkers be constructed without delay. The Indian Army is stationed at the border, and during conflicts, we often have to abandon our homes. However, with bunkers nearby, we can remain safe in our residences," he added.
