In a recent press conference, Rishi, brother-in-law of renowned actor Ajith Kumar, remarked, "Assuming the role of King Veera Simha Kadavarayan in 'Draupathi 2' has truly been a life-changing experience. This was more than just a performance; it was about reviving Tamil Nadu's rich history of valor and sacrifice."
He added, "Director Mohan G's vision for 'Draupathi 2' goes beyond mere entertainment; it’s a revival of our historical narrative. Collaborating with him again after the first 'Draupathi' feels like returning to the front lines with a trusted leader."
Produced by Chola Chakravarthy of Netaji Productions in partnership with G. M Film Corporation, 'Draupathi 2' has generated immense excitement among its audience.
The narrative is set in the 14th century, exploring the reign of Hoysala emperor Veera Vallalar III, the bravery of the Kadavarayas of Sendhamangalam, and the significant upheavals caused by the Mughal invasion in Tamil Nadu.
Alongside Richard Rishi and Rakshana Induchoodan, notable actor and cinematographer Natti Natraj will also play a pivotal role.
The cast includes respected actors like Y. G. Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan, enriching the film's historical context and dramatic depth.
In a prior interview with IANS, director Mohan G Kshatriyan revealed that 'Draupathi 2' serves as a continuation of the first film. "The runtime is 2 hours and 39 minutes, with only 8 to 9 minutes set in 2025, while the bulk of the story unfolds in the 14th century," he shared.
Kshatriyan noted that the screenplay was inspired by a small book titled Moondram Vallalla Maharaja by historian Annal Kandar. "The film's major historical events are grounded in reality, though we exercised some creative liberties in character development. It took nearly a year to finalize the script, as I had to engage with numerous experts to delve deeply into this topic. The third Veera Vallalalar governed from Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu," he explained.
The film also features a skilled technical crew. The Telugu dialogues are written by Samrat, with music composed by Ghibran Vaibodha. Cinematography is handled by Philip R. Sundar, while Thanika Tony oversees choreography. Stunt direction is led by Action Santosh, with editing managed by Devaraj and art direction by Kamalnathan.
