Bhubaneswar, Sep 22 (NationPress) In light of the increasing public outcry regarding the surge in violence against women and children in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi disclosed in the state assembly on Monday that a total of 2,933 rape cases were logged in the state from June 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025.
In a formal statement, Majhi, who concurrently oversees the home department, also indicated that 37,611 cases pertaining to crimes against women, including the 2,933 rape incidents, have been recorded at various police stations throughout the state during this timeframe.
According to the data provided by CM Majhi, 1,278 women have filed complaints of sexual harassment, while 2,161 have reported incidents of public disrobing between June 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025.
Moreover, 9,181 molestation cases were documented in the state during the same period. Odisha also saw 8,227 cases related to the kidnapping and abduction of women from June 2024 until July 2025.
Additionally, 5,464 and 6,134 cases have been recorded regarding dowry-related and non-dowry-related torture respectively across Odisha during this period.
Furthermore, 44 cases were documented concerning suicides by women linked to dowry-related abuse.
The state has also seen the registration of 264 dowry-related homicide cases during this timeframe. In a disturbing revelation, CM Majhi noted that 56 female students have taken their own lives in Odisha between June 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025.
The Odisha Police have also registered three incidents of acid attacks against women, alongside two attempted acid attacks. In response to a separate inquiry regarding measures taken by the state government to facilitate swift justice for victims, CM Majhi disclosed that 44 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) have been established to address crimes against women in Odisha, along with a dedicated ADJ Court in Bhubaneswar, which operates as a Fast Track Special Court.
He reaffirmed that the state government is committed to taking all essential actions to ensure the prompt resolution of cases tied to crimes against women.
