Bhubaneswar, Feb 17 (NationPress) A staggering 30,943 cases have been documented regarding violence against women in Odisha throughout 2024. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed this data in response to a question from senior BJD leader Pratap Keshari Deb during an assembly session on Monday.
CM Majhi, who also oversees the Home department, disclosed that the peak month for crime against women was June of last year, with 2,834 cases reported.
According to the statistics, investigations remain pending for 29,354 cases, while police have filed charge sheets for 1,230 cases out of the total 30,943 cases related to crimes against women in 2024.
The Odisha Police documented 2,574 rape cases across the state last year.
Additionally, 6,878 cases involved allegations of kidnapping or abduction of women.
The Chief Minister also noted that nine women fell victim to acid attacks in 2024.
Furthermore, 7,584 women reported incidents of molestation to the police over the last year.
