Mumbai, Oct 16 (NationPress) Actor Riteish Deshmukh has offered a heartfelt homage to the esteemed veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, who is most renowned for his legendary role as Karna in the iconic television series Mahabharat.

Riteish shared his tribute via Instagram stories, posting a memorable image of Pankaj Dheer as Karna from the BR Chopra-produced epic series.

In his touching post, Riteish expressed: “Dearest Pankaj Dheer sir, your portrayal of Karna in Mahabharata is forever etched in the hearts of countless fans. No one looked more formidable or powerful on the battlefield—a true testament to the brilliance of your craft.”

Conveying his sorrow over the loss, Riteish continued: “You departed too early. Rest in peace, Sir. Our deepest sympathies to your family and loved ones. Dear @nikitindheer, stay strong. May you find strength during these challenging times.”

Pankaj Dheer was also celebrated for his roles in Chandrakanta, The Great Maratha, Yug, and Badho Bahu. He made appearances in various Hindi films in smaller roles, including Sadak, Soldier, Baadshah, and Taarzan: The Wonder Car.

At 68, Pankaj Dheer passed away. While the exact cause remains undisclosed, reports indicate that he had been battling cancer for an extended period.

It is said that his cancer had relapsed a few months prior, and he was in a severely weakened state. He had undergone significant surgery as part of his treatment.

The actor's final rites were conducted at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai, and were attended by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

Following his role in Mahabharat, Pankaj Dheer starred in the lead role in Dastak in 1993, alongside Shagufta Ali and Sameer Kakkar. He also featured in the Zee Horror Show with Archana Puran Singh.

Moreover, he played the lead role of a defense lawyer in the TV series Kanoon. His last appearance was in the show Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare. He is survived by his son, Nikitin Dheer, who is known for his role in Chennai Express.
