Srinagar, Dec 22 (NationPress) The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, urging for the safety and welfare of Indian medical students studying in Bangladesh.

In their letter, JKSA emphasized the need for immediate governmental action to protect Indian medical students amid rising protests, tensions, and violent incidents, especially in Dhaka and nearby areas.

The organization called upon PM Modi to ensure the safety and security of these students given the ongoing unrest and volatile situation in Bangladesh.

According to JKSA, approximately 9,000 Indian students are enrolled in medical colleges across Bangladesh, with over 4,000 hailing from the Kashmir Valley.

The association reported receiving distressing communications from students and their families who are increasingly worried about the rapidly worsening conditions and the atmosphere of fear that prevails.

“Reports from students in Dhaka indicate they have been advised to conceal their identities for safety, which is both troubling and unacceptable for young Indians pursuing education abroad,” the letter stated.

The association noted that the recent death and lynching of a student leader has further unsettled the entire student community and their families back in India, highlighting the severity of the situation and the risks faced by these students.

In light of the current circumstances, many students find themselves confined to their hostels and residences, facing restrictions on their movements, uncertainty, and fear of becoming victims of violence.

“Parents in India are living in constant dread, uncertain about the safety of their children. The current conditions are perilous and uncertain, leaving students feeling vulnerable and trapped,” the association expressed.

They urged for immediate action, calling on the Prime Minister to ensure the swift safety and protection of Indian medical students in Bangladesh.

“We appeal to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commission in Dhaka to promptly address this issue with the Government of Bangladesh, seeking firm assurances for the security and well-being of our students,” they stated.

The association recommended that if the unrest and violence persist or escalate, the Indian government should consider making arrangements for the safe evacuation of Indian students back to India to prevent any potential risks to their lives.

“A timely evacuation, if necessary, would significantly help in averting any unfortunate incidents and provide reassurance to anxious families across the nation,” they concluded.
