Mumbai, Sep 11 (NationPress) Television actress Samridhii Shukla, renowned for her role in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai,’ has candidly discussed the financial hurdles her family encountered during her formative years.
She revealed, “I never complained or harassed my parents for anything. Perhaps it was due to my keen awareness of our home situation. I aspired to start earning early to support my education and alleviate the financial burden on my father, who was the only breadwinner. All the money I made as a minor was deposited in an account overseen by my mother. I only accessed it for emergencies or educational expenses.”
Samridhii, who began earning at a very young age, attributes her financial independence and discipline to keeping her grounded amidst the unpredictability of the entertainment world. Recalling her first earning experience at just five or six years old, she said, “The first time I made money, it was merely for transportation. I attended an audition, didn’t land the role, but was given ₹200. Even as a child, I grasped the importance of money.”
Referring to money as “energy,” Samridhii Shukla underscored the importance of financial discipline.
“As performers, we lead a highly unpredictable life. We cannot foresee how long a project will endure or what our next paycheck will look like. For me, financial independence means being able to maintain my lifestyle even in periods of unemployment. That’s why I prioritize saving and investing. Our parents’ generation lacked financial literacy, but we have more opportunities today. Everyone should consider an SIP or PPF to safeguard their future,” she advised.
Discussing the current work culture, Samridhii pointed out that the struggle for a healthy work-life balance extends beyond the entertainment sector. “Even my sister, who works in a marketing agency, is working tirelessly. In a city like Mumbai, where living expenses are high, whether in corporate or entertainment, the pressure is relentless. Moreover, doomscrolling on social media has caused people to lose track of time. Yet, despite the long hours, I truly enjoy my work.”
Samridhii portrays Abhira Sharma Poddar alongside Rohit Purohit in Rajan Shahi’s family drama ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.’
