‘Raja Shivaji’, directed by Riteish Deshmukh, showcases the legacy of the legendary Maratha warrior-king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film combines stunning visuals with a deeply moving and motivational storyline centered on the inception of Swarajya. Shivaji Maharaj was the founder of the Maratha Empire in western India.
He established an independent realm by confronting the Deccan Sultanates and the Mughal Empire. In 1663, Shivaji successfully raided Pune, targeting Mughal general Shaista Khan, thereby diminishing Mughal dominance in the area. In 1664, he executed the first sack of Surat, a crucial Mughal port city, disrupting imperial commerce. ‘Raja Shivaji’ features a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Boman Irani, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amol Gupte, Genelia Deshmukh, and Riteish Deshmukh. Presented by Jio Studios and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh, the film is slated for a global theatrical release on May 1, 2026 in Marathi, Hindi, and Telugu.
