Mumbai, May 18 (NationPress) Director Subhash Ghai disclosed that Sanjay Dutt was initially slated to star in his 1995 film, "Trimurti". However, he had to withdraw from the project due to legal troubles.
Dutt's legal issues ultimately benefitted Anil Kapoor, who took over his role in the film. Ghai mentioned that they had already completed the first schedule with Dutt before his arrest.
The acclaimed director shared a nostalgic photo of himself with Dutt, Shah Rukh Khan, and Jackie Shroff.
Ghai remarked, "HOW FATE TURNS IN THIS SHOWBOZ... The most expensive film from MUKTA ARTS was TRIMURTI (1993), directed by Mukul Anand, which started with SANJAY DUTT and shot its first schedule with him but ended with ANIL KAPOOR due to Dutt's legal issues immediately after the release of KHALNAYAK, which created a global sensation," he wrote.
For those unfamiliar, Dutt was detained for illegal possession of firearms, including a 9mm pistol and an AK-56 assault rifle linked to the 1993 Bombay Terror Attacks. After numerous stints in and out of jail, Dutt was finally released from Pune’s Yerawada Jail on August 26, 2015, after serving his sentence for his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. Now, Sanju is back on the big screen, unstoppable... Our blessings are always with him with love.
Directed by Mukul Anand and penned by Karan Razdan, the film featured Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Anjali Jathar, and Priya Tendulkar in key roles.
This marked Anand's last completed film, as he tragically passed away while filming "Dus" in 1997.
"Trimurti" debuted in theaters on December 22, 1995, and made waves at the box office, becoming the first film to achieve a ₹1 crore opening day.
