In a statement to the press, Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh mentioned that a detailed mock exercise was conducted to evaluate readiness and ensure a smooth security operation during the session.
Singh also disclosed that 35 platoons of police along with over 100 officers, including approximately eight Additional DCPs and 27 ACPs, will be stationed within the assembly and nearby areas.
Additionally, a Special Tactical Unit (STU) has been assigned to address any potential anti-terror incidents. Quick Reaction Teams have also been placed at seven strategic locations. A significant number of plain-clothed police officers have been deployed to guarantee the seamless execution of assembly activities.
The security strategy comprises three categories: armed, unarmed, and plain-clothes personnel, ensuring comprehensive surveillance and response capabilities across all critical zones.
Senior officials and various operational units participated in the rehearsal to assess real-time coordination and readiness for response. Officials noted that around seven core operational teams and nearly thirty officers were involved in the drill, which covered entry points, assembly premises, and surrounding areas.
The Commissioner also indicated that special security arrangements are being made in light of the Governor’s visit for the customary address that marks the beginning of the session.
Law enforcement has reviewed intelligence reports and fortified sensitive security locations as part of their preparations.
Notably, an all-party meeting was conducted on Monday under the leadership of the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly, Surama Padhy, to ensure the smooth operation of the budget session.
The session will commence with the Governor’s address, followed by a two-day discussion.
The State Budget is set to be presented on February 20 by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also oversees the finance portfolio.
As per official sources, the sixth session of the 17th Odisha Assembly is expected to wrap up by April 8. The session will occur in two phases, spanning 28 working days.
