Mumbai stabbing probe: CM Fadnavis flags self-radicalisation, ATS and NIA investigate
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, 29 April 2025, said the Mira Road stabbing of two security guards in Naya Nagar, Mumbai, appears to be a case of self-radicalisation, with both the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) now jointly investigating the attack. The accused, identified as Zaib Zuber Ansari, was produced before a court in Thane and remanded to police custody until 4 May.
How the Attack Unfolded
According to police officials, Ansari approached two security guards stationed outside an under-construction building near Wockhardt Hospital in Naya Nagar, Mira Road, at around 4 am on Monday. He reportedly asked the guards to recite the 'Kalma', a key Islamic declaration of faith, before launching the stabbing attack. Both guards sustained injuries in the assault.
