Tikamgarh, March 29 (NationPress) A severe road incident occurred on the Badagaon-Baldevgarh highway close to the Gopalpura junction in Madhya Pradesh's Tikamgarh district, resulting in injuries to more than 22 individuals when a speeding SUV collided with a tractor-trolley carrying devotees.

The violent crash caused both vehicles to flip, leading to a chaotic scene on the heavily trafficked roadway. Reports indicate that ten of the injured are in critical condition.

This unfortunate event took place late on Saturday night. The tractor-trolley was owned by villagers from Ramtoriya in the adjacent Chhatarpur district. The passengers were returning from a pilgrimage to the Bagaj Mata Temple, where they had participated in traditional rituals by offering ‘Jaware’ — sacred saplings.

The vehicle was transporting men, women, and children who had attended the religious ceremony. Initial police reports suggest that the SUV was traveling at a high speed when it struck the tractor-trolley. The impact was so forceful that it caused both vehicles to overturn, trapping several passengers beneath the debris.

A total of 22 individuals suffered injuries of various severities during the incident. Local residents and bystanders quickly arrived to assist with rescue efforts.

Many victims were extracted from beneath the overturned vehicles. However, distress signals indicated a worrying delay in emergency services, as no ambulances reached the scene for nearly two hours.

In the absence of official assistance, local villagers utilized their own vehicles to transport the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Badagaon Dhasan.

At the CHC, all 22 injured individuals received initial medical care. Out of them, the condition of 10 victims was deemed critical, prompting their immediate transfer to the District Hospital in Tikamgarh for further treatment, where they are currently being monitored.

Medical professionals are keeping a close eye on the critically injured, as some have sustained fractures, head injuries, and internal trauma.

This accident underscores the ongoing issue of speeding on rural highways in Madhya Pradesh and the susceptibility of tractor-trolleys, which are frequently used for transporting large groups during religious and social gatherings.

Overloading and subpar road conditions are also believed to have exacerbated the severity of the accident.

Senior police and district officials visited the accident site and the hospital to assess the situation. An official case has been filed, and an investigation is in progress to ascertain the precise cause, including the actions of the SUV driver. Authorities have promised stringent action against those found accountable for reckless driving.
