Vishesh Sharma Leads Boulders Classic with Record Round
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, April 14 (NationPress) In a stunning display of skill, 19-year-old Vishesh Sharma from Hyderabad shot an impressive seven-under 65, securing a one-shot advantage after the first round of the highly anticipated INR 1 crore Boulders Classic at the Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club. This remarkable score not only earned him the lead but also established a new course record, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 14th hole, alongside six birdies and a solitary bogey.
Joining him in a tie for second place, two-time PGTI Tour champion Shubhankar Sharma recorded a six-under 66, sharing the spot with Vinay Kumar Yadav from Delhi. This round marked a significant return for Shubhankar, who hadn't participated since the Tour Championship held in Jamshedpur in December 2021. The young and talented Vishesh, who turned professional just last year and ranked 21st on the DP World PGTI Order of Merit in 2025, capitalized on his home ground advantage to deliver an outstanding performance.
Reflecting on his round, Vishesh remarked, “I maintained my focus early on, ensuring I placed myself well. The eagle on the 14th was a pivotal moment for me. I struck a hybrid to around 10 feet and made the putt, fueling my momentum.”
He continued to harness that momentum, converting multiple opportunities from within 10 to 15 feet. “I capitalized on the chances I created and sank some solid putts,” he added.
Playing in familiar territory, Sharma expressed confidence in the local conditions, stating, “It’s fantastic to be competing in Hyderabad and staying at home for this tournament. My familiarity with the course surely gave me an edge.”
Shubhankar’s round included an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, six birdies, and two bogeys.
“The course is exceptionally well-maintained and will only become more challenging as the week progresses, particularly with the wind and pin placements,” Shubhankar noted. “I had a strong middle segment where I gained shots, including the eagle, which made a significant difference.”
He added, “Ending the round on a high note boosts your confidence for the next day.”
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Vinay Kumar Yadav also posted a flawless six-under 66, tying for second with Shubhankar. Vinay recently celebrated a playoff victory at the DP World PGTI NexGen event in Gurugram last month.
In contrast, Yuvraj Sandhu, a pre-tournament favorite, struggled with a score of 73, landing him in a tie for 55th place.
