Hosur, Aug 19 (NationPress) Yuvraj Sandhu from Chandigarh, who leads the PGTI Order of Merit and was victorious last week in Mysuru, maintained his impressive form by scoring an eight-under 63 in the opening round, earning him the top spot at the INR 1 crore PGTI Players Championship 2025 at the Clover Greens Golf Course & Resort, located near Hosur in Tamil Nadu.

A trio, including Nepal’s Subash Tamang, Delhi’s Shaurya Bhattacharya, and Hyderabad’s Milind Soni, each recorded seven-under 64 at the Par-71 course, placing them in a tie for second.

Mohd Azhar from Hyderabad secured the fifth position with a score of 65, while Bengaluru’s amateur sensation, Veer Ganapathy, tied for sixth with a score of 66.

This event marked the debut of PGTI at Clover Greens, with many professionals playing their inaugural competitive rounds at this scenic venue. Yuvraj Sandhu, also visiting Clover Greens for the first time, excelled on day one despite overcast skies and strong winds, with temperatures ranging between 20 to 24 degrees Celsius.

The 28-year-old Sandhu's remarkable round featured three birdies on the back nine, complemented by an eagle and four additional birdies against a single bogey on the front nine.

Notably, Yuvraj's round showcased a stunning 20-foot eagle conversion on the second hole, a drive that reached the green on the Par-4 13th, along with exceptional up-and-downs, one from the hazard and another from the rough, for birdies.

Yuvraj stated, “I’ve begun to truly enjoy playing in gusty conditions; I feel I excel in these scenarios. Just like I mentioned last week, my experience in Asia has honed my skills for such challenges.

“Leading in my very first round at a new venue feels fantastic, just like last week in Mysuru. Clover Greens may be a short course, but it presents numerous challenges due to its narrow, tree-lined fairways and pot bunkers. Luckily, I had the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am a couple of days prior with the course owner, Mr. Austin Roach, who provided me valuable insights regarding the course’s challenges, which proved to be immensely beneficial.”

Subash Tamang, the 2023 All India Amateur champion, recorded eight birdies against a single bogey on day one, with precise approach shots allowing him six birdie putts within four feet.

Both Shaurya Bhattacharya and Milind Soni, tied for second alongside Tamang, achieved two eagles each during their rounds of 64. Shaurya, a winner this year, chipped in for his eagle on the 12th hole and delivered an impressive second shot from 190 yards to set up a tap-in eagle on the second hole.
