New Delhi, July 4 (NationPress) - A significant breakthrough occurred when two sharpshooters from the gang led by UK-based don Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu, and Vanktesh Garg, were apprehended in the Rohini locality on Friday. This followed an encounter where the suspects fired a minimum of five shots at law enforcement officials, as confirmed by a Delhi Police spokesperson.
The arrested individuals, identified as Sombir alias Chinu and Vijay, were subdued after suffering gunshot wounds to their legs during the exchange of fire near Sector-34, Rohini, in the vicinity of Munak Canal, the police reported.
During the operation executed by the Crime Branch, NR-I, under the guidance of DCP Harsh Indora, authorities recovered two country-made pistols, seven live cartridges, one misfired round, and four discharged cartridges.
“Based on reliable intelligence concerning the movement of these individuals, a tactical ambush was established in the early hours. Despite multiple warnings to yield, both suspects opened fire, unleashing five rounds upon the police team,” stated a police official.
In the crossfire, both suspects, affiliated with the Kapil Sangwan gang, were injured and subsequently apprehended, the official added.
According to police records, Sombir hails from Hisar in Haryana, while Vijay is from Chandigarh. Sombir is a suspect in a recent murder case in Bawana, where he allegedly killed Deepak Thakran, a resident of Nangal under the Bawana police jurisdiction, injuring the victim's minor daughter, Anchal, in the process.
Authorities further revealed that Vijay has been implicated in numerous crimes, often acting as a facilitator for gang members by providing shelter and logistical assistance.
Following Deepak Thakran’s murder, an online account purportedly belonging to Nandu, believed to be residing in the UK, claimed responsibility for the homicide. Deepak was known to be the nephew of rival gangster Manjeet Mahal.
The Delhi Police indicated that the animosity between the Nandu and Mahal gangs has persisted for over a decade, resulting in more than two dozen murders since 2015.
The conflict traces back to the assassination of Nandu’s brother-in-law, Sunil, in Deenpur near Najafgarh, allegedly orchestrated by Mahal and his associates.
