Hubballi, Jan 24 (NationPress) Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized on Saturday the importance of integrating slum dwellers into the mainstream society, highlighting that a significant distribution of houses is underway.
He reiterated that the government’s guarantee schemes are designed to facilitate the inclusion of the underprivileged.
During a large gathering organized by the Housing Department and the Karnataka State Housing Board in Hubballi, he distributed 42,345 houses constructed by the Housing Board across various districts. Additionally, 46,000 houses built by the Slum Development Board were allocated to eligible beneficiaries. He congratulated everyone involved on this notable occasion.
Reflecting on his previous term, Siddaramaiah noted that the Congress government successfully constructed 14,58,000 houses, marking a transformative period for housing.
After taking office again, the government distributed 36,789 houses in the first phase in 2024 and is now in the process of distributing 45,000 houses in the second phase.
He affirmed that the government has upheld its promises and is operating in line with its commitments, while others are merely making allegations without fulfilling their own.
“They claimed they would bring back black money from overseas and deposit Rs 15 lakh into everyone’s bank accounts. Did they deliver on this?” he questioned.
He commented on significant projects such as the Mahadayi, Upper Krishna, and Upper Bhadra, expressing skepticism about the BJP and the Union government’s commitment to these projects.
He urged Union Minister Pralhad Joshi to address these concerns.
Siddaramaiah highlighted that the state government allocates Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per house, whereas the Centre contributes less than Rs 1 lakh. He pointed out that despite the scheme being named the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the majority of funding originates from the state.
He emphasized that in the past two years, the Congress government has invested Rs 5,500 crore in housing projects, showcasing a substantial commitment to social welfare and infrastructure for the marginalized.
“In spite of this, the BJP continues to spread misinformation, claiming that the state’s finances are depleted. We are allocating Rs 2,500 crore annually for farmers’ pump sets, along with substantial funds for widow pensions, old-age pensions, and various welfare initiatives,” he concluded.
