New Delhi, Jan 25 (NationPress) During the latest episode of the 'Mann Ki Baat' program on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the creative initiatives of citizens in addressing societal challenges through the 'collective strength' of communities, highlighting instances from Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
In his 130th monthly radio broadcast, PM Modi remarked, 'The people of our nation are incredibly innovative. Finding solutions to issues is inherent in our citizens. Some achieve this via startups, while others rely on community collaboration.'
He pointed to Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, stating, 'The residents breathed new life into the Tamsa River that flows through their area. This river represents not only a watercourse but also a vital component of our cultural and spiritual identity. Once, it was the lifeblood of this community.'
However, the Prime Minister noted that increased pollution had hindered the river's flow due to sediment buildup, waste, and debris.
'In response, the locals initiated a movement to rejuvenate the river. They undertook cleaning efforts and planted shade-providing, fruit-bearing trees along its banks. The community engaged in this endeavor with a sense of obligation, resulting in the river's revival.'
Additionally, PM Modi mentioned another instance of civic engagement from Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh, a region battling significant drought.
'The soil here is red and sandy, leading to water scarcity. Some areas experience prolonged dry spells, often likened to a desert. To combat this issue, residents committed to cleaning the reservoirs. With administrative support, the 'Ananta Neeru Sanrakshanam Project' was initiated.'
'Through this initiative, over 10 reservoirs have been restored, filling with water once again. Concurrently, more than 7,000 trees have been planted, enhancing both water conservation and greenery in Ananthapur. This revitalization has allowed children to enjoy swimming, effectively rejuvenating the entire ecosystem.'
PM Modi concluded by emphasizing, 'Whether in Azamgarh, Ananthapur, or any part of our country, it is uplifting to witness citizens uniting to achieve significant goals with a sense of responsibility. This spirit of civic engagement and unity is our nation's greatest asset.'
