Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 30 (NationPress) Kerala's Education Minister V. Sivankutty has fiercely criticized CPI leaders, claiming their conduct is disrespectful and that they have "crossed limits" in their remarks regarding the PM SHRI school project controversy.
This outburst signifies a renewed conflict within the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), despite prior agreements for peace on the matter.
Sivankutty accused CPI leader and State Food Minister G.R. Anil of publicly "insulting" him during a visit to the party's headquarters, where he intended to explain why Kerala initially consented to the Central government's PM SHRI initiative.
"I had reached out to Anil before my visit. Nonetheless, he made belittling comments to the press, even questioning the principle of Cabinet responsibility," Sivankutty remarked.
"Anil treated me as if I were of no significance. This reflects a severe lack of political culture," he added.
The minister also criticized CPI national executive member Prakash Babu for allegedly using "highly indecent" language against CPI(M) Politburo member M.A. Baby.
"What grounds did he have to label Baby as helpless? He is our party's General Secretary. Such language is unacceptable," Sivankutty stated.
Moreover, he condemned CPI-affiliated student organizations, such as the All India Students' Federation and All India Youth Federation, for "overstepping all limits" by burning his effigy and protesting outside his residence on two occasions.
"They even attempted to portray me as communal. Those actions come from individuals who are oblivious to my political background," he commented, adding that Viswam later conceded the protests were misguided.
This criticism follows Kerala's decision to suspend the PM SHRI project. Although the state has paused further actions, the ultimate decision now lies with the Centre. Responding to the minister's allegations, G.R. Anil expressed his "deep surprise".
"We've known each other since our student days. I've never used offensive language towards anyone, and I'm confident that Sivankutty is aware of that," he stated.
