New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Samajwadi Party (SP) has vehemently condemned the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing it of being a political instrument aimed at swaying election results. The party has pledged to thwart this initiative throughout Uttar Pradesh.
According to SP MP Virendra Singh, the current administration is attempting to employ a failed strategy to secure electoral victories through SIR. He noted that in Bihar, the lack of public awareness allowed the ruling party to succeed during the initial implementation of SIR. However, he asserted, “In Uttar Pradesh, we will not allow them to prevail and will stand firm at every polling station.”
Singh further highlighted that the party is focusing its internal discussions on preparing for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
“Our primary agenda is to outline strategies for the forthcoming elections and to hold the government accountable during the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament. A meeting will convene to discuss these topics, where senior leaders will offer their insights,” Singh explained.
This month, SP national president Akhilesh Yadav sharply criticized the Election Commission and the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government in relation to the electoral rolls, claiming that the SIR process is a “conspiracy” to systematically disenfranchise specific communities while favoring the ruling party.
In a statement to reporters, Yadav remarked that while no political party initially raised objections to the SIR, concerns escalated following the release of the draft list.
“As we feared, almost three crore votes have been removed. Prior to the draft's release, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath predicted that four crore votes would be eliminated. How could he be aware of this without any data?” Yadav questioned the credibility of the Election Commission if BJP leaders continue making such assertions.
