Kolkata, Sep 28 (NationPress) A unique menu has been specially crafted for inmates in correctional facilities throughout West Bengal during the four days of Durga Puja. A government representative announced on Sunday that special arrangements have been made to enhance the dining experience for the prisoners during this festive occasion.

In addition to traditional biryani, the inmates will also enjoy Chinese dishes during the festival from Monday to Thursday. The morning snack will feature luchi-puri, a popular deep-fried flatbread.

"This time of year is meant for sharing joy and happiness with family and friends. The life of a prisoner is spent confined within prison walls, disconnected from the outside world. As the city embraces the festive spirit, we have organized something special for them. Each year, the menu in correctional homes undergoes a transformation during the four days of Puja, and this year is no different, with an array of delectable dishes prepared for them," stated the representative.

According to him, various menus will be available from lunch to dinner throughout the Puja festivities. On Saptami (Monday), a meal of fish, rice, and vegetables will be served at noon, followed by chicken curry for dinner. Ashtami will commence with puri-vegetables and khichuri in the morning, while labra will be offered at noon. Luchi accompanied by vegetables will be the evening meal. On Navami, rice, dal, and shrimp vegetable curry will be served at lunch, with chicken biryani for dinner. On Dashami, the menu includes rohu fish for lunch and fried rice with chilli chicken for dinner. There will also be distinct arrangements for vegetarian options.

"Vegetarian inmates will enjoy veg biryani, paneer, curd, and ice cream. Additionally, preparations will ensure that all inmates can savor sweets during the four days of the festival. Breakfast will feature chowmein and egg toast, with egg toast and tea served on Navami, and chowmein on Dashami," the official added.

Meanwhile, pujas have also commenced in the state's correctional homes. Reports indicate that prisoners at the Presidency Correctional Home are promoting a message of unity, reflecting the theme of this year's puja, 'unity and diversity'. From the thematic concepts to the pavilion decorations, everything has been crafted by the prisoners themselves.
