Are Special Voter Registration Camps Happening Across TN for Two Days?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Jan 3 (NationPress) Voter registration camps are being organized throughout Tamil Nadu for a duration of two days, commencing on Saturday, as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
This initiative follows a comprehensive revision exercise, which has led to the removal of a substantial number of names from the state's voter list.
Official statistics indicate that approximately 97.37 lakh names have been removed from the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision conducted in Tamil Nadu.
Consequently, the number of registered voters in the state has decreased to around 5.43 crore.
The primary goal of this revision exercise is to enhance the accuracy of the voter database by eliminating duplicate, deceased, or ineligible entries.
In this regard, the process for adding new names to the voter list commenced on December 19.
As part of this campaign, special registration camps were previously conducted on December 27 and 28 at nearly 75,000 polling booths across the state, allowing eligible citizens to submit applications for inclusion or correction of their information.
Officials have noted that the response thus far has been positive. So far, 7.37 lakh individuals have applied for inclusion in the electoral rolls, while 9,535 applications have been received requesting name deletions.
To broaden outreach and maximize participation, special camps are once again being held today and tomorrow at all polling booths across Tamil Nadu.
Election officials have encouraged eligible citizens to seize this opportunity, especially those who have recently reached voting age or whose names were removed during the revision process.
Individuals turning 18 on January 1 of this year, as well as those whose names were deleted during the SIR exercise, are advised to submit Form 6 for inclusion in the voter list.
Officials have also provided the upcoming schedule for the revision process.
Special correction camps will be conducted on January 18 to permit voters to request corrections in the draft electoral rolls. Following this, the final voter list will be released on February 17.
The Election Department has reaffirmed that maintaining an accurate and current voter list is crucial for ensuring free and fair elections, urging all eligible citizens to actively engage in the revision process and verify their electoral details within the designated time frames.
