Chennai, July 26 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who is currently recuperating in a Chennai hospital, has assigned Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu the task of delivering a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to the state.
The memorandum addresses critical demands relating to the state’s financial and developmental requirements. Despite his hospital stay, Stalin has been fulfilling official duties from his bed and announced this development via his official ‘X’ handle.
In a post featuring a 22-second video, he stated, “Due to my hospitalization, I have sent a petition with the requests to be presented to the Honourable Prime Minister visiting Tamil Nadu through the Chief Secretary. Minister Thangam Thennarasu will present it to the Honourable Prime Minister.”
The video captures the Chief Minister, dressed in a lungi, conferring with Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, senior officials, and Thoothukudi MP and DMK Parliamentary Party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, as he reviews the petition and government matters from his hospital room.
This initiative follows a DMK parliamentary party meeting held a week earlier, during which it was decided that MPs would bring up several unresolved issues pertaining to Tamil Nadu in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.
Among the top priorities are the release of education-related funds owed to the state by the Centre, timely devolution of Tamil Nadu’s share of taxes from the divisible central pool as per Finance Commission recommendations, and allocation of special development projects for the state.
Finance Minister Thennarasu is anticipated to meet with the Prime Minister and formally deliver the memorandum outlining these demands. The meeting is politically significant as it coincides with AIADMK leader and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s scheduled meeting with the Prime Minister, marking his first since re-establishing ties with the BJP.
As the Prime Minister embarks on his Tamil Nadu visit, which includes inaugurating major infrastructure projects and participating in the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival honoring Emperor Rajendra Chola I, both the ruling DMK and the Opposition AIADMK are keen to capture the Centre’s attention to advocate for their respective agendas.
Notwithstanding his hospitalization, Stalin remains actively involved in administrative affairs, showcasing a hands-on approach during this politically delicate period.
