New Delhi, Oct 16 (NationPress) The former Foreign Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla emphasized on Thursday that Moscow continues to be New Delhi's primary supplier of sophisticated military systems. He noted that the realm of defence collaboration has transitioned from mere imports to a framework of joint development, co-production, and authentic technology transfers, aligning with India's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Speaking at an event focused on India-Russia Strategic Partnerships in New Delhi, Shringla highlighted that the ability to adapt amidst global turmoil and changing geopolitical dynamics is a defining characteristic of the India-Russia partnership.

He remarked that Russia has steadfastly backed India's aspirations for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

He stated, "One of the most notable aspects of our partnership is its ability to endure change, even during global disruptions, shifting geopolitical landscapes, and pandemics that have closed borders. India and Russia have maintained open channels, adapted mechanisms, and found pathways to progress. This resilience stems from decades of trust, mutual respect, and what I term 'strategic patience.' I would like to highlight six key pillars that underpin this enduring partnership. Political and diplomatic alignment is our bedrock. The annual summit functions as the pinnacle of our institutional framework, providing a unique platform for leaders to assess the trajectory of our relationship and establish future priorities. The Moscow summit in July 2024 was pivotal, reaffirming our collective vision for an enduring partnership with tangible objectives leading towards 2030."

"When Prime Minister Modi received Russia's Order of Saint Andrew during that visit, it transcended mere ceremony. It symbolized the profound respect and trust cultivated over years of collaboration. Beyond these summit events, the rhythm of engagement persists through ministerial exchanges, the 2+2 dialogue, and platforms like the United Nations, G20, BRICS, and SEO. Russia has consistently championed India's quest for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council, and India values Russia's influence in shaping global narratives. However, political alignment must be reinforced by tangible capabilities and shared security interests, leading me to the critical area of defence and security cooperation, which serves as the backbone of our alliance. Russia remains India's top supplier of advanced military systems, with the nature of this collaboration evolving significantly from basic imports to cooperative development, co-production, and genuine technology transfers today, in line with India's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision," he elaborated.

He pointed out that the BrahMos missile exemplifies how both nations can co-innovate for a strategic advantage. He also reminisced about the Durga Puja celebrations in Siliguri, where panels showcasing Operation Sindoor were prominently displayed.

"The BrahMos missile exemplifies our capacity for co-innovation, providing a strategic edge neither could achieve independently. The successful delivery of the S-400 air defence systems, despite global supply chain challenges, highlights our unwavering commitment, even amidst external pressures. Recently, during the Durga Puja festivities in my constituency of North Bengal, Siliguri, I was delighted to see numerous puja pandals showcasing panels of Op Sindoor, with the BrahMos taking a place of pride. This reflects the spirit and support the populace has for India's defence and the enhancement of our defence capabilities, as well as our partnership with a reliable ally like Russia," he concluded.
