Indore, Sep 1 (NationPress) Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan expressed her disapproval of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi regarding the recent uproar over his comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother. She emphasized the importance of understanding history and adopting a mature tone in political discourse.
“For Rahul Gandhi to aspire to lead, he must first grasp the essence of history and communicate with maturity. Such qualities are cultivated through knowledge and experience. He appears to be lacking in maturity,” Sumitra Mahajan stated in an interview with IANS.
Affectionately known as ‘Tai’ (grandmother), she remarked that Rahul Gandhi needs to appreciate India’s rich history and culture to grow as a politician.
“Only with this understanding can he mature as a leader,” added the seasoned BJP figure.
Mahajan, who held the position of Lok Sabha Speaker from 2014 to 2029, made these comments in response to derogatory language allegedly used during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, an event led by Rahul Gandhi.
She recounted that there was a time when the BJP faced challenges in establishing itself, yet its leadership maintained consistent engagement with the public, advocating for their interests in a constructive manner.
"There was a period when we (BJP) struggled for electoral success. We nurtured leadership and organized rallies. Pioneers like L. K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi would hold significant rallies in urban areas while other party workers reached out to the villages," Mahajan commented.
At the age of 82, Mahajan, a resident of Indore, expressed her hope that Rahul Gandhi would embody the values expected of a “mature” politician.
Since the release of a video displaying “derogatory” remarks against PM Modi's mother, the state BJP unit has been vocally protesting.
Meanwhile, the Congress party, under the leadership of state unit chief Jitu Patwari, is conducting a statewide initiative to spotlight Rahul Gandhi’s allegations concerning irregularities in the electoral system.
