Mumbai, Nov 19 (NationPress) Suparn S Varma, the director of the recently launched film ‘Haq’, has come to the defense of fellow filmmaker Aditya Dhar.

Aditya Dhar has faced scrutiny due to the intense violence depicted in the trailer of his forthcoming movie ‘Dhurandhar’. The creator of ‘Haq’ criticized the industry's and viewers' double standards, asserting that they readily applaud international films showcasing similar gritty and violent imagery.

He pointed out the industry's blind spot, emphasizing that Indian films are often subjected to more stringent criticism compared to their international peers. With Aditya Dhar's film set to hit theaters soon, he argues that this bias must be addressed.

In a lengthy post on his Instagram Story, he expressed his astonishment at the discussions surrounding the violence in #Dhurandhar, stating, “The same viewers would have hailed it as cinematic genius if it were in another language or a Korean or Japanese film. It’s high time we began to celebrate Hindi cinema and its creators with the same fervor we extend to all filmmakers.”

He added, “Every filmmaker brings a unique voice and identity. I am genuinely captivated by the world and characters that @adityadharfilms and his remarkable team have crafted.”

The director believes that the film's success demonstrates that when we support our own storytellers with the same confidence we show towards global cinema, they produce work that is on par with the finest.

Known for his political and intellectual awareness, Suparn has previously explored the political dimensions of art. In an interview with IANS, he remarked, “Every art serves a distinct purpose. When I mention ‘politics,’ I refer not only to governance but to various forms of politics present in art.”

He elaborated, “Politics can manifest in comedy; Charlie Chaplin’s films are political, addressing the social divide between the rich and the poor. For instance, ‘The Tramp’ is one of the most politically charged figures, highlighting the dichotomy of the haves and have-nots. In comedy, you invariably encounter a bully, reflecting the politics of power. Where power exists, so does politics, even in family films where the dynamics between adults and children represent political themes. I discuss politics at that fundamental level, and while it is an intrinsic part of life, it is unique and not necessarily negative.”

Meanwhile, ‘Haq’ has garnered INR 17.86 crore at the box office, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
