Hyderabad, Sep 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, made a heartfelt appeal on Sunday for public support towards the significant Musi Rejuvenation project. This initiative aims to restore the once-thriving river, safeguarding Hyderabad from future flooding threats.
During the opening ceremony of the revitalized Batukamma Kunta Lake in Amberpet, the Chief Minister highlighted that even a mere two centimeters of rain in Hyderabad can lead to severe flooding.
Expressing concern over the impact of climate change, which is causing more frequent cloud bursts, he stated that the state government has devised plans to enhance infrastructure and protect the environment.
CM Revanth Reddy emphasized that the Musi has deteriorated into a waste dumping site due to the negligence of past administrations and underscored the necessity for its revival.
"Our government is dedicated to safeguarding water bodies and restoring neglected lakes and ponds through the Musi initiative," he proclaimed, urging the public to contribute to this revival effort to shield the city from potential natural disasters.
He pointed out that even an hour of rainfall can inundate communities within the Musi catchment area.
The Chief Minister instructed the Hyderabad in-charge Minister, Ponnam Prabhakar, to conduct an on-site inspection and draft proposals for the rehabilitation of impoverished individuals in the Musi catchment regions of Amberpet.
Addressing the public, he cautioned against the risks of acquiring government properties at discounted rates from land mafia, affirming that the People's Government will always support the underprivileged. "We understand the challenges faced by the poor, unlike the opposition, which views poverty as a mere adventure," he remarked.
CM Revanth Reddy also highlighted that the establishment of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) aims to protect water bodies and eliminate encroachments. Although the government faced initial resistance, it has persevered against all challenges.
He praised HYDRAA for successfully removing encroachments from Bathukamma Lake and restoring it.
A large gathering of women celebrated Bathukamma near the lake to welcome the Chief Minister.
HYDRAA has rejuvenated the lake at a cost of ₹7.15 crore, as part of restoring six lakes at a cumulative expense of ₹58.40 crore.
Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for 39 new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to be constructed in Hyderabad, with a total investment of ₹3,849.10 crore.
