Mumbai, July 4 (NationPress) Actress Surjasikha Das expressed that she initially felt intimidated to engage with Kajol while filming on the set of “Maa.”
The emerging star confessed to experiencing jitters around the seasoned actress during the early stages of shooting but gradually became more at ease as they interacted. Discussing her experience of collaborating with Kajol in the horror drama Maa, Surjasikha disclosed that Kajol’s commanding screen presence and experience made her reluctant to approach her initially. However, over time, the two developed a friendly connection on set.
“At first, I was a bit overwhelmed. I vividly recall the first movie I ever saw in a theater—sitting on my mother’s lap—it was a film featuring Kajol ma’am. I didn’t fully comprehend films back then, but I was captivated by her. She has remained one of my favorite actresses ever since. Thus, the chance to work alongside her, exchanging cues, and performing scenes together felt incredibly surreal,” Surjasikha shared.
“Initially, I was hesitant to even speak to her. Yet, she was incredibly warm—she would embrace me every time we encountered each other on set—which made me feel comfortable enough to return the hug. She was playful and often teased me about my long, unique name. Moreover, she’s stunning—I couldn’t help but notice every minute detail of her performances, striving to absorb as much as I could. She is remarkably quick as an actor,” Surjasikha Das added.
Reflecting on her first significant scene with Kajol, Surjasikha commented, “I was genuinely anxious and puzzled during my major scene with her. I kept questioning whether I could really yell at her in the scene or if I should tone it down. I thought, ‘She’s Kajol ma’am… how could I raise my voice at her?’ But then I reminded myself that my duty was to stay true to my character, and the remainder was up to the director. Ultimately, it became a delightful experience and an unforgettable memory.”
Recalling the moment she secured her role, the ‘Call Me Bae’ actress stated, “One day, I was casually walking in Aram Nagar, searching for auditions when I was invited for a test. I was hesitant, thinking, ‘Another mother’s role?’ But then I decided to give it my all. The director engaged with me deeply about my thoughts, aspirations, and whether I’d be comfortable portraying a non-glamorous, older character with a daughter. Honestly, it didn’t matter to me. Whether glamorous or not, I simply want to perform. If the role has depth, I’m in.”
Surjasikha Das portrayed the character of Nandini in the Kajol-starring film “Maa.” This mythological horror film, produced by Ajay Devgn, was released on June 27.
