Did Sutapa Sikdar Really Say Irrfan Khan Found Valentine's Day 'Ridiculous'?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 15 (NationPress) In a heartfelt revelation, Sutapa Sikdar, the widow of the late actor Irrfan Khan, shared her thoughts about her husband’s views on Valentine's Day through a recent Instagram post.
She disclosed that the couple never celebrated this occasion as Irrfan considered it quite “ridiculous”.
Highlighting some advantages, she noted that this choice not only allowed them to save money but also kept them away from potential harassment by what she refers to as the 'Sanskari' goons.
“No post missing irrfan on Valentine’s Day!! We hail from a generation when this day wasn't so commercially exploited. The upside? We saved money and were safe from those ‘SANSKARI’ goons. There weren’t many around back then, but as we matured, Irrfan found these 'Days' created by marketing firms quite absurd! So, we never observed Valentine’s Day, not out of fear but out of our own decision. (sic),” she wrote on the photo-sharing platform.
Sutapa emphasized that for them, not celebrating Valentine's Day was a personal choice, and if her sons decide to celebrate, she would honor their preferences.
She even proposed giving a unique gift for the day—organic vegetables from their farm.
Imagining how Irrfan might have reacted, Sutapa remarked, “In our household, we respect choices. If my sons wish to celebrate, let them! They can be babu Shona, but I suggested organic veggies from our farm. The color is meant to be RED! My son just rolled his eyes. I could almost hear my beloved irrfan saying, ‘Come on, let’s whip up something delicious!’ Fast forward to now, my son looks at me #irrfankhan incredulously and walks away with the green veggies. Happy Kathal Day to everyone!! #valentinesday #organic #sanskari.
For those unfamiliar, Irrfan and Sutapa tied the knot on February 23, 1995, after graduating from NSD.
They were blessed with two sons, Babil and Ayan.
Sadly, Irrfan passed away in April 2020 after battling neuroendocrine cancer at the age of 53.
