Hyderabad, April 3 (NationPress) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana has successfully retrieved more than Rs 24 lakh in cash, along with gold and silver ornaments, and fixed deposits valued at Rs 30 lakh during operations at the residences of two officials from the Sub-Registrar's Office in Warangal, according to an agency statement issued on Friday.
The ACB team conducted an unannounced inspection at the Sub-Registrar's Office in Hanumakonda district, uncovering numerous discrepancies.
The agency reported that the surprise searches revealed the presence of 20 unauthorized agents and document writers. During these operations, officials seized unaccounted cash totaling Rs 47,450 and 70 unregistered documents.
Examination of mobile devices belonging to the document writers unveiled multiple WhatsApp communications between SRO-I Jamalapuram Ramanarsimha Rao and SRO-II Davuluri Anand, suggesting PhonePe transactions with document writers that accumulated to around Rs 42,03,125 over the previous year.
Additionally, it was discovered that 204 undelivered registered documents were in the custody of the SROs.
Subsequent simultaneous searches at the homes of both SROs resulted in the recovery of net cash amounting to Rs 24,61,540, 819.5 grams of gold ornaments, 2.6 kg of silver ornaments, and fixed deposits totaling Rs 30.10 lakh at Kapil Chits.
The ACB also identified several other anomalies during the unannounced checks. A comprehensive report will be forwarded to the government for necessary action, as stated by the agency.
On April 1, ACB officials apprehended K. Ramesh, 48, a Junior Assistant at the Osmania University's Administration Building, Pay Bill Section, Hyderabad, while he was soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 13,000 from a complainant.
The ACB noted that he collected this bribe for his own benefit as well as on behalf of Aravind, a Senior Assistant in the Pay Bill Section, in exchange for providing an official favor—specifically, to expedite the processing of the complainant's mother's pension benefit file for submission to higher authorities, and to facilitate her retirement benefits file.
