Hyderabad, Sep 9 (NationPress) Telangana's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, advocating for the restructuring of loans to alleviate the escalating repayment pressure on the state.
This meeting took place in New Delhi, where the Chief Minister emphasized the need for loan restructuring.
The Chief Minister's Office reported that Reddy informed the Finance Minister that the previous administration had taken on loans with exorbitant interest rates, resulting in a significant financial strain on the current state government.
In a positive response, the Union Minister acknowledged the Chief Minister's appeal, as per the CMO.
Additionally, Revanth Reddy urged Sitharaman to provide comprehensive support to enhance the education sector, highlighting the transformative reforms recently initiated.
He outlined measures taken to offer corporate-quality education to the BC, SC, ST, and minority groups, who represent nearly 90% of the state's demographic.
As part of this initiative, 105 Young India Integrated Residential Schools are being established across all Assembly constituencies. Construction has commenced for four of these schools, and tenders for the rest have been finalized. Each institution will accommodate 2,560 students, creating opportunities for over 270,000 students to pursue education statewide.
The Chief Minister also discussed the necessity for funding to build these schools equipped with modern amenities like laboratories and sports facilities, estimating the total construction cost at Rs 21,000 crore. An additional Rs 9,000 crore is projected for upgrading labs and infrastructure in junior colleges, degree colleges, technical institutions, and other higher education facilities.
To finance the construction of these residential schools, the Chief Minister requested permission from Nirmala Sitharaman to establish a special corporation for fund mobilization and sought an exemption from the FRBM limits.
Reddy emphasized that the state government considers spending on education an investment for the future.
Accompanying the Chief Minister were Congress MPs Dr Mallu Ravi, Porika Balaram Nayak, Suresh Shetkar, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, State Finance Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, and Central Projects and Schemes Coordinating Secretary Gaurav Uppal.
