Hyderabad, Oct 31 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday declared a compensation of Rs 10,000 per acre for farmers whose crops suffered due to Cyclone Montha.
Following an aerial assessment of the flood-stricken regions in the combined Warangal district and Husnabad Assembly constituency, he announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for families who lost loved ones during the severe rains and flooding caused by the cyclone.
During a review meeting held at the Hanamkonda district Collectorate post aerial survey, the Chief Minister also stated that Rs 15,000 would be allocated to families whose homes were inundated.
Families severely impacted will receive houses under the Indiramma scheme, and special aid will be extended to individuals who lost livestock and standing crops.
The state’s agricultural department's preliminary evaluation indicates that the cyclone has devastated crops across over 4.47 lakh acres.
The Chief Minister’s Office reported that he instructed officials from all departments to compile a detailed report on the damages inflicted by the flash floods and heavy rains, and to submit this report promptly to the government. The authorities were tasked with detailing crop damages, sand accumulation on farmland, loss of life and livestock, along with infrastructure damages.
The CM urged public representatives to assist the administration in assessing the damages and to report their findings to the district collectors.
He also inquired about the Central assistance provided during floods to various states and directed officials to expedite the acquisition of necessary funds from the Union government.
Stressing the need for a permanent resolution to flood management issues, CM Revanth Reddy pointed out that the lack of departmental coordination was evident, urging all sectors to collaborate effectively to tackle civic challenges during floods.
Officials were instructed to initiate a campaign against encroachments on nalas. To safeguard the welfare of the majority, the CM emphasized that officials should proceed with a clear vision and implement stringent measures.
During the review, the Chief Minister highlighted the need for cooperation between the Municipal Administration and Irrigation departments to eliminate encroachments at nalas and other water bodies. Officials were directed to prepare a specialized report on upcoming work for the Warangal smart city and establish a coordination committee at the field level.
Given that cloud bursts have become increasingly common due to climate change, CM Revanth Reddy asserted the necessity for planning a permanent solution and urged district collectors and authorities to conduct regular field inspections.
