Hyderabad, March 3 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement, Telangana met a record peak power demand of 18,139 MW, marking the highest figure in the state's history, as reported by officials on Tuesday.

The state power utilities efficiently handled this unprecedented demand, registered at 11:01 a.m. on Tuesday, without any interruptions. This milestone was highlighted by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who also serves as the Minister for Energy.

He praised the senior officials and the dedicated staff of the state power utilities for their seamless management of this extraordinary demand, ensuring a reliable power supply throughout. “This achievement showcases Telangana’s economic advancement, effective operations, and outstanding coordination,” he stated in an official release.

Despite its smaller geographical size, Telangana has managed to achieve peak loads comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, those of larger states. This development is indicative of rapid growth across various sectors, including industrial, agricultural, and urban.

With a peak demand of 18,139 MW, Telangana stands shoulder to shoulder with larger states such as Madhya Pradesh, which recorded approximately 19,900 MW, and Rajasthan, which saw peak demands between 19,600–20,600 MW. This growth demonstrates Telangana's capability despite its smaller area and population.

The statement emphasized that Telangana has outperformed industrial states like Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh in terms of peak demand, positioning itself as a state with a high density of electricity consumption.

The rapid growth in sectors such as IT, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and irrigation has been a key driver of this demand. Notably, during the 2023-24 fiscal year, the peak demand was recorded at 15,623 MW on March 8, 2024, and the highest peak demand reached 17,162 MW on March 20, 2025.

“Telangana is not only addressing current demands but is also strategically prepared for the upcoming summer peak requirements. Our strengths lie in a robust grid system, forward-thinking strategies, and coordinated operations,” the Deputy Chief Minister remarked.

“The power sector in Telangana is structured for progressive development. From control rooms to field personnel, it is the combined effort of every individual that has made this success achievable. Telangana is setting a benchmark for other states,” he added.
