Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Feb 11 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has officially restructured the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into three distinct corporations. This reorganization includes the establishment of two new entities, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri, while maintaining six of the original twelve zones under GHMC.
A recent Government Order (GO) was issued on Wednesday, which formalized the creation of three municipal corporations: Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, and the existing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The government appointed Jayesh Ranjan, who serves as the Special Chief Secretary to the Government in the Metropolitan Area and Urban Development Department, as the Special Officer overseeing these three corporations.
R.V. Karnan will continue his role as the Commissioner of GHMC. G. Srijana has been reassigned as the Commissioner of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation.
T. Vinay Krishna Reddy, previously an Additional Commissioner at GHMC, will now serve as the Commissioner of Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation.
According to the GO, this reorganization of GHMC was conducted after a thorough assessment of the administrative needs arising from the city's expansion.
This decision follows the recent merger of 27 surrounding urban local bodies into GHMC, forming the Core Urban Region (CURE). Last December, the government had approved the reorganization of GHMC into 12 zones and 60 circles.
Cyberabad Municipal Corporation will now include areas from the Serilingampally, Kukatpally, and Qutbullapur zones.
Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation will encompass areas from the Malkajgiri, Uppal, and L.B. Nagar zones.
The remaining areas under the Shamshabad, Rajendernagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad zones will still be managed by GHMC.
The newly formed corporations will each serve a population of approximately 35 lakh, while GHMC will manage a population of around 70 lakh.
This restructuring was announced on the same day that municipal elections were taking place in seven corporations and 116 municipalities across the state.
Upcoming elections for GHMC, the two new corporations, and other urban local bodies in Telangana are anticipated to occur in April-May.
