Hyderabad, May 19 (NationPress) Three railway stations in Telangana have been transformed into Amrit Stations and are set to be inaugurated alongside 100 other stations nationwide on May 22.
The Begumpet railway station in Hyderabad, as well as the Karimnagar and Warangal railway stations, have been revamped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
According to the South Central Railway (SCR), comprehensive facilities and amenities have been established at these three stations at a total investment of Rs 77.81 crore.
SCR officials briefed the media about the new amenities on Monday.
At Begumpet, a completely new station building has been erected featuring a 12-metre foot overbridge, lifts, escalators, and a waiting hall. Plans are in place for a second entry point at a cost of Rs 12 crore, enhancing the station’s capacity to serve the bustling twin city region of Hyderabad, meeting the needs of both suburban and non-suburban passengers.
The foundation stone for these redevelopment projects was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a total of 40 railway stations have been earmarked for development, with an estimated budget of approximately Rs 2,750 crore.
Begumpet Railway Station is undergoing redevelopment with a budget of Rs 26.55 crore. This station accommodates around 100 trains and sees a daily footfall of 15,000 rail users. A long-term master plan has been devised to incorporate modern facilities.
The enhancements at Begumpet include a new station building with a waiting hall and booking office, Divyangjan facilities, modern restrooms, improvements to the circulating area, a rock garden and small water fountain, facade lighting, landscaping, additional platform shelter, platform resurfacing, a sewage treatment plant, a 12-meter foot overbridge with ramp access, two lifts, and four escalators.
Karimnagar railway station has been developed as an Amrit station at a cost of Rs 25.85 crore, with the foundation stone laid in August 2023. This station manages 10 trains and has a footfall of 1,000 rail users.
Warangal Station has been earmarked for redevelopment at a cost of Rs 25.41 crore, with the foundation stone laid in February 2024. This station handles approximately 150 trains and serves nearly 22,000 rail users.
