Did T’gana Cong MLC's ‘Lord Ram’ Remark Ignite Controversy? BJP Responds
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) A political uproar unfolded on Tuesday when Telangana Congress MLC Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud accused the BJP of utilizing Lord Ram for electoral advantage. This sparked a fierce backlash from senior BJP leaders, who condemned the Congress for allegedly demeaning Hindu sentiments and Sanatan Dharma for political purposes.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh responded vehemently to this situation, asserting that the remarks demonstrated a profound misunderstanding of India's cultural and spiritual heritage.
“If leaders in Telangana fail to grasp Hindu and Sanatan culture, it reveals their ignorance of Indian traditions. The Gita states that whenever dharma wanes, forces emerge, and individuals like Ram or Krishna are reborn. Today, Narendra Modi embodies such a leader, elevating the nation and striving to position India as a Vishwaguru, facilitating unprecedented development,” Singh claimed.
The controversy ignited after Goud accused the BJP of manipulating religious and caste dynamics for electoral purposes.
“The BJP engages in politics surrounding caste and religion. Has Lord Rama joined the BJP? They only invoke religious sentiments for electoral gains. Prior to every election, the BJP disrupts the peaceful environment by campaigning on religious grounds instead of addressing genuine public issues,” Goud stated.
BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also criticized the Congress, asserting that disrespecting Hindu beliefs has become a tactical component of their political agenda.
“Disrespecting Hindus and Sanatan has become the Congress's hallmark as they rely on their vote bank strategy. Thus, derogating Hindus is no accident — it is a deliberate tactic and a vote bank industry,” Poonawalla asserted.
He added, “Today, a Telangana MLC speaks of Prabhu Ram in ways that would never be directed at any other deity, god, or prophet. Revanth Reddy recently made offensive comments regarding Hindus as well. Congress has a history of employing phrases such as ‘Hindu terror,’ ‘Sanatan terror,’ declaring ‘eradicate Sanatan,’ branding saffron terrorism, alleging Lord Ram is fictional, and deriding the Ram Mandir consecration as a ‘naach-gaana’ while opposing the Ram temple.
Resonating similar thoughts, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo questioned the motivation behind Goud's remarks. “Only someone with a cheap mentality could make such statements about Sanatan Dharma, benefiting from our tolerance. Would they dare to make such comments about Islam or Christianity?” he queried.
