Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) The Congress party has expressed strong support for Telangana Congress MLC Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud following his comments regarding the perceived political exploitation of Lord Ram by the BJP for electoral advantages. This has intensified the ongoing political dispute with the ruling party, which has accused the Opposition of disrespecting Hindu beliefs and Sanatan Dharma.
In light of the backlash against Goud, Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput defended the MLC, redirecting the criticism toward the BJP and accusing them of systematically politicizing religion.
“The manner in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) employs Lord Shri Ram for electoral purposes—be it in Hindu-Muslim politics, the search for temples beneath mosques, or placing flags on mazars—raises significant political questions. The BJP certainly owes an explanation for these actions,” Rajput asserted.
The controversy ignited when Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud claimed the BJP was manipulating religious and caste identities for electoral benefit.
“The BJP engages in caste and religious politics. Has Lord Rama joined the BJP? They only invoke religious sentiments for electoral profit. Before every election, the BJP disrupts the peaceful atmosphere by seeking votes based on religion, rather than focusing on real issues affecting the populace,” stated the Telangana Congress MLC.
The BJP vehemently responded, led by Union Minister Giriraj Singh, who criticized Goud's comments as indicative of a misunderstanding of Hindu and Sanatan culture.
“If leaders in Telangana fail to grasp Hindu and Sanatan culture, it reflects their ignorance of Indian culture. The Gita states that whenever there is a decline in dharma, such forces arise, leading to the birth of someone like Ram or Krishna. Today, Narendra Modi embodies such a leader,” he praised, commending the Prime Minister’s leadership.
With Surendra Rajput’s endorsement, the Congress has reaffirmed its support for Bomma Mahesh’s statements, framing them as a political critique of the BJP's alleged misuse of religion, while the BJP continues to label the remarks as an attack on the Hindu faith.
