Kolkata, Jan 17 (NationPress) In light of the upcoming inauguration of India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has reached out to the Officer-in-Charge (IC) of Kaliachak Police Station in Malda, voicing concerns about a potential stone-throwing incident targeting the train.
On Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train from Malda Town Railway Station.
Before this event, intelligence reports suggested a looming threat of attack. The letter from the RPF to the Kaliachak Police Station's IC outlines worries that the train might face stone attacks and the display of black flags post-departure.
Authorities have been directed to implement robust security measures to avert any such incidents.
The RPF's letter notes that a source named Subodh Kumar Sau informed them via email about a plot to target the inaugural train with stones and black flags.
Concerns arise regarding possible stone-throwing at several locations including Jamirghata, Khaltipur, Chamgram, Shankhpara, New Farakka, Ballalpur, Dhulian, Basudevpur, and Tildanga stations after the train leaves Malda.
As such, the Kaliachak police have been urged to ensure substantial police presence at these sites to maintain law and order.
Historically, there have been multiple incidents involving stone-throwing at the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express, prompting strict actions from the railways.
This preemptive communication by the RPF aims to safeguard the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train from any disturbances.
On Friday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to board the train from Malda Town Railway Station around 12:45 PM to inaugurate the first Vande Bharat Sleeper Train service connecting Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya).
He will also virtually commence the return service from Guwahati to Howrah. The introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper is a significant advancement for Indian Railways, enhancing premium overnight travel options between eastern and northeastern India.
The train will consist of 16 coaches, including 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches, and 1 AC First Class coach.
