Threatening Letter Received by BJP MLC Ravi Over Controversial Comments

Chikkamagaluru, Jan 11 (NationPress) BJP MLC C. T. Ravi revealed on Saturday that he has been the recipient of an anonymous letter demanding he apologise for the purported derogatory comment made regarding state Women and Child Welfare Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, or face dire consequences.

In light of this incident, the Police Department has increased security measures for the BJP leader.

Chikkamagaluru SP Vikram Amte confirmed that a threatening letter was sent to Ravi, and a formal case has been lodged.

“We will bolster security for Ravi in light of this situation,” he stated.

The threat letter instructed Ravi to appear in Belagavi and provide an apology to Hebbalkar within a 15-day timeframe. The authors of the letter warned that failure to comply would result in the murder of both him and his son.

In response to the situation, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar condemned Ravi, labeling him a “big drama master.”

While addressing the press in Sringeri on Saturday, Shivakumar remarked: “Ravi is a big drama master. I once viewed him as a national leader and a significant figure within the BJP. I never anticipated he would stoop to such depths. In this matter, he should heed his own conscience rather than anyone else’s.”

“Numerous leaders from his own party have expressed that Ravi should not have made such statements. Had he acknowledged his error and apologised, the issue would have been resolved. Instead, he continues to propagate falsehoods,” Shivakumar asserted.

The controversy began on December 19 during a heated session in the Karnataka Legislative Council, where Ravi allegedly referred to Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, as a “drug addict.”

This sparked significant backlash, with Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar accusing Ravi of being a “murderer.” Ravi is said to have retaliated with an obscene remark aimed at Hebbalkar.

The alleged comment led to Ravi's arrest on accusations of using derogatory language against Hebbalkar. However, he was later released following a directive from the High Court.

The Congress government has transferred the case to a special unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), even as Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti indicated that the matter should be considered resolved and police involvement deemed unwarranted.

Hebbalkar challenged BJP MLC Ravi to affirm his statements before Lord Manjunatheshwara at the renowned Hindu pilgrimage site in Dharmasthala, Karnataka, concerning his alleged derogatory language.

Simultaneously, Ravi has lodged a complaint with Governor Thawarchand Gehlot regarding perceived police misconduct. The Governor has instructed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to review the situation and take appropriate action against any wrongdoing.
