Shivakumar: Justice Will Prevail Through Conscience Amid Obscene Comment Controversy

Bengaluru, Dec 21 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar stated on Saturday that justice will be achieved through conscience in the case concerning the offensive remarks made against BJP MLC C. T. Ravi.

This statement from the Deputy Chief Minister followed closely after the release of Ravi, who faced arrest for his alleged derogatory comments aimed at Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar.

In response to Ravi's claims of being subjected to police harassment throughout the night, Shivakumar remarked to reporters: "In this situation, both you and the police are implicated. Whether it's at his residence or within his party, I am the root of all this."

Shivakumar further stated, "Let the BJP acknowledge that disrespecting women and using abusive language is ingrained in their culture. We will not raise objections to this."

He added, "C. T. Ravi has not only disrespected Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar but has also insulted CM Siddaramaiah. During the Assembly session, he referred to her using the term 'Nitya Sumangali', a derogatory term in Kannada. BJP leaders should reflect on whether Ravi's statement was appropriate."

Shivakumar continued, "Chikkamagaluru, the hometown of Ravi, is recognized for its cultured populace. Regrettably, someone like him originates from there."

He insisted, "If any leader from our party had made such comments, I would have condemned it. However, BJP leaders are defending their member."

State Home Minister G. Parameshwara commented, "The matter is currently in court. I will refrain from making statements as it is sub-judice. Discussing the issue is not appropriate."

Parameshwara added, "The police assert that they have acted lawfully. The court will determine what is right and wrong. I have been informed that while gathering information on various circumstances, a judgment was reached without consulting the police's perspective. Therefore, we cannot comment or criticize the judgment."

When questioned about Legislative Council Chairperson Basavaraj Horatti stating that there are no records of Ravi making derogatory remarks, Minister Parameshwara admitted that he was unaware of any details.
