Karnataka CM: No Woman Would Lodge False Complaints Amid BJP MLC's Arrest

Mandya (Karnataka), Dec 20 (NationPress) Addressing the detention of BJP MLC C.T. Ravi over alleged offensive comments directed at Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar during a session of the Legislative Council, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remarked on Friday, 'Typically, no woman would initiate a false complaint with such serious allegations.'
In response to inquiries from the press in Mandya regarding the BJP's demonstration supporting C.T. Ravi, CM Siddaramaiah raised the question that if the claims of using derogatory language were untrue, why was C.T. Ravi apprehended?
'The BJP is backing individuals who speak in a disrespectful and demeaning manner towards women. Witnesses at the scene heard C.T. Ravi employ foul language. There is audio and video documentation of the inappropriate language he used,' he emphasized.
'However, I have not personally verified it. If Ravi's statements were fabricated, why was he taken into custody? Women typically do not lodge false complaints in such scenarios. I am unsure why C.T. Ravi resorted to such disrespectful language. This constitutes a criminal act,' the CM continued.
Responding to media assertions that Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti indicated C.T. Ravi used the term 'frustration,' rather than 'prostitute' as alleged, the CM remarked, 'C.T. Ravi is now suggesting he used the word 'frustration.' This is a subsequent justification. He is claiming this now, but the reality is that offensive language was utilized, prompting the minister to file a complaint.'
'Other attendees also confirmed hearing Ravi's inappropriate language. The incident transpired after the Chairman departed from the floor, and many have corroborated that there is audio and video proof of the derogatory term used,' Siddaramaiah stated.
In response to C.T. Ravi's claim that he received death threats and that the government is to blame, the CM stated, 'Once an FIR is lodged, the police are obligated to conduct an investigation, and legal measures must follow. Due to public anger towards C.T. Ravi in Belagavi, he was relocated to Khanapur for his protection.'
Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai commented on the situation, emphasizing that the truth behind the alleged inappropriate remarks made by MLC C.T. Ravi in the Legislative Council should be thoroughly investigated.
While speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, he asserted the necessity for a comprehensive inquiry into the issue.
'We cannot excuse the actions of the police. Previously, this government did not hold accountable those who shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' in the Vidhana Soudha. The BJP MLC has firmly denied making such a statement. We are advocating for a fair approach, and we do not oppose an investigation. However, reaching a conclusive decision without a proper inquiry or fact verification is not appropriate,' Bommai remarked.
