In a major highlight leading up to the event, the prizes for this year's competition have been displayed on a special stage. The bull-tamer who successfully tames the highest number of bulls will win a brand-new car, while the owner of the top-performing bull will receive a tractor, heightening the excitement surrounding this traditional sport.
State Minister Murthy conducted a thorough inspection of the venue, ensuring that safety protocols, infrastructure, and inter-departmental coordination were all in order.
Officials confirmed that this inspection was conducted to guarantee a seamless and incident-free event.
In a media briefing, Madurai Municipal Police Commissioner Loganathan stated that the Avaniyapuram Jallikattu would strictly adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Supreme Court and the operational protocols established by the Tamil Nadu government.
He assured that all necessary safety and regulatory measures were being implemented without fail.
According to officials, online tokens have been issued to 1,000 bulls and 550 registered bull-tamers, facilitating controlled entry and improved crowd management. Enhanced surveillance, barricading, and increased security personnel have been deployed around the arena.
To address potential medical emergencies, a fully-equipped 15-bed first-aid and treatment center has been established at the Avaniyapuram Government Middle School.
A team of 100 doctors and 12 ambulances stand ready to provide immediate medical assistance to participants and spectators alike.
Meanwhile, veterinary examinations of the bulls have been ongoing since early morning. The Animal Husbandry Department has dispatched 61 veterinarians across 15 teams to inspect the animals. Bulls are assessed for height, age, fitness certification, infectious diseases, horn condition, and overall physical health. Bulls lacking valid fitness certificates are being disqualified and returned. So far, veterinary checks have been completed on 70 bulls, with four being disqualified, officials reported.
With tradition, stringent regulations, and safety measures converging, Avaniyapuram is poised to host yet another high-profile Jallikattu as Pongal celebrations reach their zenith.
