Top NSCN (K-YA) Cadre Captured in Assam by Security Forces

Guwahati, Dec 24 (NationPress) The army and Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Assam Police, captured a wanted leader of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Khaplang’s Yung Aung faction (NSCN-K-YA) from Charaideo district in the state, as stated by officials on Monday.

A Defence spokesperson revealed that acting on precise intelligence, the Army and Assam Rifles, together with the Assam Police, arrested a notorious NSCN (K-YA) cadre named David Konyak from Namtola in Charaideo district on Sunday night.

The security forces had been actively searching for this individual due to his involvement in various extortion and abduction-related activities in the border regions of Assam and Nagaland, according to the spokesperson.

The captured individual has been transferred to the police for further inquiries.

In a related development, the NSCN-K-YA recently issued an extortion demand of Rs 20 lakh to Oil India Limited (OIL), a public sector oil giant.

This notice, signed by the self-proclaimed Major of the NSCN-K-YA, Tha Aung, was delivered to OIL's office situated in Manabhum, which is located in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The outfit requested the sum of Rs 20 lakh by December 10 and has warned OIL that they would be held responsible for any delays.

OIL sources have confirmed they received the extortion notice.

In response to the militant group's warning, OIL authorities stated that they have enhanced security measures at the exploration site in Arunachal Pradesh and have discussed the issue with the Arunachal Pradesh government.

OIL operates in the Manabhum reserve forest in eastern Arunachal, which spans the Changlang and Namsai districts.

The NSCN-K-YA's notice has created a sense of panic among the officials and employees of the Maharatna company.

It is noteworthy that the NSCN-K-YA has not entered into a ceasefire agreement with the Central government.

The Central government has signed ceasefire agreements with eight Naga groups, including the prominent faction, the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM), and has periodically extended the ceasefire terms.
