New Delhi, Oct 17 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed on Friday that traders throughout the city have commenced receiving their GST refunds in anticipation of the festive season, with a total of Rs 738 crore already distributed through this initiative.

She stated, “The process is ongoing, with cutting-edge technology facilitating quicker and more effective refund processing for traders.”

Emphasizing the government's commitment to ensuring timely GST refunds, the Chief Minister announced that the Department of Trade and Taxes has successfully addressed pending refund cases totaling Rs 1,002 crore, of which Rs 738 crore has already been remitted to businesses and traders.

She described this as a notable accomplishment that has invigorated the refund process.

CM Gupta mentioned that to expedite and enhance transparency in the refund system, the GST Department has developed a sophisticated IT module in partnership with IIT Hyderabad.

This module employs data analytics, automation, and rapid verification systems to ensure swift resolution of refund applications, she added.

“To date, 8,259 refund applications have been processed, marking a record figure, including 7,409 claims under Rs 10 lakh. The swift handling of these smaller claims has delivered essential relief to small traders and business operators across Delhi,” the CM stated.

According to the Chief Minister, this initiative not only boosts taxpayers’ confidence but also fosters commercial activity in the capital. The release of refunds ahead of Diwali will enhance market liquidity and invigorate the business landscape.

The Chief Minister further noted that her administration is making ongoing efforts to bring joy to the public.

Significant relief has been granted on outstanding water bills and unauthorized water and sewer connections, including a 100 percent waiver on payment charges and penalties, she said.

“This initiative serves as a Diwali gift to the people,” she stated, adding that approximately Rs 11,000 crore in surcharges will be waived.
