Kolkata, Sep 29 (NationPress) In a devastating incident, a young child lost their life and 30 others sustained injuries when a bus flipped over in Bolpur, located in the Birbhum district of West Bengal on Monday.

The unfortunate event took place in the morning, as reported by officials, who mentioned that those injured were promptly taken to a hospital. Of the 30 individuals hurt, the situation of 12 is considered critical.

Reports indicate that the bus was traveling from Nanoor to Bolpur, and the accident transpired near the Bolpur Sub-divisional Hospital. Officials stated the bus was moving at a high velocity and, in an effort to avoid colliding with a toto (a local auto rickshaw) that suddenly appeared, the driver lost control, resulting in the bus overturning. Local residents swiftly came to the scene to assist and transported the injured to the nearby Bolpur Sub-divisional hospital.

Upon receiving the news, police arrived at the location and, with community support, rescued passengers who were trapped within the bus and transferred them to the hospital.

Tragically, medical personnel later confirmed the death of one child. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment, with police working to notify the families of all affected.

Local inhabitants voiced concerns regarding the poor condition of the road from Bolpur to Nanoor, stating that the lack of maintenance often leads to frequent accidents.

Police sources revealed that the identity of the deceased child remains unknown.

"A horrific incident took place this morning, coinciding with the first day of Durga Puja. Approximately 30 individuals were injured when a speeding bus attempted to avoid a toto, resulting in one child's death. The condition of 12 individuals is critical," remarked a senior officer from the Birbhum district police.

Furthermore, the accident led to a significant traffic jam on the busy roadway. Eventually, the situation was resolved, and normal traffic flow resumed.
