Patna, July 12 (NationPress) Tragically, three individuals, including a 10-year-old girl, have lost their lives and two others have suffered serious injuries after a car, out of control, plunged into a canal in the Ranitalab area of Patna early on Saturday morning, according to officials.

The incident took place around 6 a.m. close to Saraiya village under the jurisdiction of Ranitalab police station in the Paliganj locality.

The victims were traveling from Chhattisgarh to the Vaishali district when the driver lost command of the vehicle, resulting in it falling into the water-filled Saraiya canal.

The deceased have been identified as Nirmala Devi (52), Neetu Singh (36), and Stuti Kumari (10). The two injured passengers, Nandan Singh and Riddhi Singh, have been taken to Patna AIIMS for urgent medical care and are currently reported to be in very serious condition.

All victims resided in the Mahua police station area of Vaishali district and had traveled to Chhattisgarh for work. The unfortunate accident happened as they were on their way back.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Ranitalab police station stated, “Upon receiving the alert, our police team promptly arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of local villagers, managed to rescue the victims. The vehicle was extracted from the canal using an earth mover.”

“We have notified the families of the deceased, who are en route to Patna,” he added.

Initial investigations indicate that the driver may have briefly dozed off after a long overnight drive from Chhattisgarh, which led to this heartbreaking event.

This incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved road safety and management along Bihar's highways, particularly concerning the absence of safety barricades along canals adjacent to highways and the dangers associated with night driving without sufficient rest.

The local authorities have initiated procedures for post-mortem examinations, and further investigations are underway.

Point of View
