Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Dec 8 (NationPress) A devastating road accident struck Patna when a speeding vehicle lost control and struck six pedestrians in the affluent Gola Road area governed by the Danapur police station in Bihar’s Patna.
Chansi Rai, a sixty-year-old man, tragically lost his life due to his injuries, while five other individuals sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).
The harrowing incident unfolded near Jhakri Mahadev Temple on Gola Road, with troubling CCTV footage now surfacing.
The video captures three young men standing by the roadside with a dog nearby when suddenly a black sedan speeds in, hitting the dog and then mowing down four people in one swift motion. The dog can be seen suffering under the vehicle's wheels.
The car paused momentarily, revealing a man trapped beneath the front wheel. As two individuals approached the driver, he recklessly accelerated again, crushing the trapped man again.
Bystanders attempted to halt the vehicle, some even striking the car with their hands, but the driver continued his rampage, running over another person before fleeing towards JP Ganga Path, commonly known as Marine Drive.
Chansi Rai, critically injured, was initially taken to the Military Hospital and later transferred to a private facility in Raja Bazaar, where he sadly passed away on Monday morning.
Authorities from Danapur police and traffic units arrived shortly after the incident.
Using CCTV evidence, the vehicle's registration plate was identified, and the car was traced heading towards Marine Drive.
Danapur SHO Prashant Bhardwaj confirmed, “We have located the vehicle's registration number and are reviewing CCTV footage to find both the car and its driver.”
“A case of reckless and negligent driving has been filed. Arrests will occur shortly,” Bhardwaj stated.
This horrific incident has reignited serious concerns surrounding pedestrian safety on the roads of Bihar, where speeding, reckless driving, and inadequate enforcement continue to jeopardize lives.
