Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kuwait City, March 30 (NationPress) The Indian Embassy in Kuwait expressed its sorrow on Monday following the tragic loss of an Indian citizen due to an attack on a desalination facility. The embassy is actively liaising with relevant authorities to provide necessary support and assistance.
The embassy's official post on X stated, “The Embassy of India in Kuwait conveys its heartfelt condolences over the unfortunate loss of an Indian national as a result of the assault on a desalination facility in Kuwait yesterday. Our team is diligently coordinating with Kuwaiti officials to offer all possible aid and support.”
As reported by the Kuwaiti government, an Indian worker was killed during a strike launched by Iran on a power and water desalination site in Kuwait early on Monday, raising the total number of Indian nationals who have lost their lives in the ongoing West Asia conflict to at least eight.
Additionally, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water confirmed on X that the attack inflicted damage on a service building at the facility and condemned it as a “heinous Iranian aggression” against the Gulf nation.
“This assault led to the death of an employee (of Indian nationality) and resulted in substantial material damage to the facility,” the Ministry stated in Arabic (translated roughly into English).
Officials noted that emergency and technical response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to manage the situation, mitigate damage, and ensure operational continuity at the facility.
The Ministry reiterated that the “safety and stability of the electricity and water infrastructure is of utmost importance,” indicating that technical teams are proactively working to identify any further risks to ensure uninterrupted essential services.
This recent fatality follows another tragic incident in the United Arab Emirates, where an Indian national was killed last Thursday due to falling debris after a ballistic missile was intercepted above Abu Dhabi.
At that time, the Indian Embassy had stated it was “collaborating closely with UAE authorities to provide all necessary support and assistance” to those impacted.
Following a review meeting involving multiple ministries held on Friday, the government reported that seven Indian nationals had lost their lives in the Middle East conflict thus far, with one individual reported missing. The incident on Monday has further escalated the death toll.
The conflict, which has now progressed into its fifth week, ignited after the United States and Israel executed coordinated strikes on Iran, leading to a broader regional escalation.
Since then, Iranian forces have launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf nations hosting American military installations, resulting in casualties and extensive damage to critical infrastructure throughout the region.
