Why is Abhishek Banerjee Urging Trinamool to Initiate a Digital Campaign on ED Raids at I-PAC?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 12 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee has instructed the party's Information Technology division, known as 'Digital Yoddhas' or 'Digital Warriors', to kickstart an extensive digital campaign elucidating the party's stance against the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) raid and search operations at the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) office and the residence of I-PAC co-founder Pratik Jain last week.
He conveyed these directives during a digital conclave of the Trinamool Congress on Monday afternoon, attended by members of the party’s IT cell.
A participant from the IT cell highlighted that the first concern raised by Trinamool Congress is the timing of the ED's raids and searches, which occurred in connection with a six-year-old coal smuggling case, just before the West Bengal Assembly elections this year.
The second concern mentioned was the choice of the residence of an I-PAC director based in Kolkata for the search when two other directors were located in Delhi and Hyderabad.
The third point, as summarized by the IT cell member, indicates that the underlying intention behind these raids was to obtain insights into the Trinamool Congress's electoral strategies for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
“Our General Secretary has instructed us to initiate a comprehensive campaign along these lines immediately,” stated the IT cell member.
On Thursday, multiple ED teams conducted raids across a total of 10 locations, with six in Kolkata and four in New Delhi. However, they encountered resistance at two sites in Kolkata.
During the raids at Jain’s residence on Loudon Street in central Kolkata and at I-PAC’s office in Salt Lake, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at both sites, accompanied by senior officials from the state administration and police.
She departed from both locations carrying numerous paper files and electronic documents.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court addressed a matter concerning the raids, where the ED accused the Chief Minister of misusing her constitutional authority to obstruct the central investigative agency's officials from performing their duties.
