Agartala, March 21 (NationPress) The Tripura government announced a 3 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for its 188,000 government employees and pensioners on Friday.

During the opening day of the week-long Budget session of the Tripura Assembly, Chief Minister Manik Saha stated that the DA and DR have risen to 33 percent from the previous 30 percent due to this announcement.

The new DA and DR rates will come into effect on April 1, with members of the Assembly applauding the decision.

This announcement followed the presentation of the 2025-26 Budget by Finance, Planning, and Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy.

CM Saha highlighted that accommodating the new DA and DR will require an additional expenditure of Rs 300 crore.

According to officials from the Finance Department, over 106,000 government employees and 82,000 pensioners will benefit from this increase.

Since coming to power in March 2018, the BJP government has revised pay scales based on the 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations, resulting in multiple adjustments to DA and DR for employees and pensioners.

There has been ongoing pressure from state employees and pensioners for their DA and DR to match those of Central government employees and pensioners.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced that the Budget session will last until April 1.

This marks the second session of the Tripura Assembly this year.

The current session is set to be the longest in 15 years, with the government aiming for comprehensive discussions on the Budget and other pressing issues, encouraging participation from both treasury and opposition members.
